Bulk Vegetable Add Ons

Happy Tuesday All,

I just wanted to give everyone the heads up about the updates to our bulk vegetable section in the Add Ons in your harvest hand account.

If you are new to using the add on section here is a quick video to show you the ropes.

This might sound a little intimidating but this time of year is when we start to think about...preserving our food! The amount of produce is abundant (you should see the amount of grape tomatoes flowing out of the tunnels!) It is a good time of year to stock up on some of your favourite vegetables and fruit; Freezing, or preserving in are fun ways to keep the taste of summer long into the winter months. If you are looking to experiment with some preserving. We also have options of bulk buying for different fruits from Noggins, fruits like apricots, nectarines, and peaches

When I started thinking about preserving for the first time, I was SUPER intimidated. I turned to some online resources and some human resources to help me out! Luckily my next-door neighbour is a wiz with canning and she loved to have a helping hand every now and again! So, if you are feeling the pressure (pun intended!) here are some online canning super stars to help you get through some trial and error!

The Old Farmers Almanac  - has a couple of fun articles

Home Canning Guide -  a heavier read, but lots of information!

Freezing is also a great option. I take home my farm share each week, but I also love to grow things at my home (double farming!) So this means lots of my greens are getting blanched, and frozen so I can keep things like chard, and spinach as part of my diet once the days start to get a little cooler.

And on a side note: We are hosting a Corn boil in the city on Saturday September 7th from 12:00 noon until 2:30. The event will be held in Leighton Dillman park near the community pizza oven. I'll be putting together a little online invite later today, so I will send that out ASAP.

I hope you are all enjoying these cool August evening, and happy back to school season for those who are getting ready to jump back into it!

Kindly,

Brogan
