Week 24 (Sept 14 - 20) TapRoot + Off the Hook 2015
Happy Friday evening!
Please take note - Communication this week (Sept 19-26)
If there are issues this week (bad apples, missed pickup, changes needed), please send along the email to CSA@taprootfarms.ca as you usually do. There will be no response until the week of September 28th. I assure you that whatever the issue is we will resolve or correct things the week of September 28th. I am going to be away and both Claire and Denise are working on other projects and so I am asking your acceptance/patience/understanding to not expect a response from the CSA desk until the 28th.
this is the final week for the Off the Hook CSF pilot. Thank you so much for joining the adventure of testing how TapRoot and Off the Hook can work together to get fish to you. There have been up's and down's and we want to hear from you. For sure, it was not our expectation that it would be haddock each week. I have heard your frustration with this and I completely appreciate it. Dave reports that it was a haddock year. There has been some pollock that came in near the end, and there is pollock now in the freezer but it is at the end of the 6 weeks. We are planning to offer another Off the Hook share but we are not sure what worked or didn't work for you so we will find out before launching another share option. Also we will launch a shrimp share but need to wait for the catch to come in before Dave will know what the price is. We are planning to carry on in some way - and will be in touch soon with a survey and to inform next steps. THANKS!
tomorrow I, Patricia will be joining my sister Carolyn at Seaport market. Dad is away at a family wedding and we are filling in for him. I am not sure even with two of us we can keep up with dad - if you are a Seaport Market goer - we might see you tomorrow:))
Josh as put ginger on the CSA list this week - if you were a member last year you may recall the small little morsel of ginger. This year the ginger is amazing! I can't wait for you to get it. Big and lush and new!
I am heading to Belgium on Saturday night to learn from various people involved in the Belgium flax industry. I am sort of panicking at this point. If you are interested in following my day to day (as I am able with Wifi) i have created a group called Flax Learning Tour 2015 you can join.
Bye Bye Flowers for 2015
This week was the last for flower shares. Jill and Valarie have been providing us with gorgeous bouquets throughout the summer. It's just so lovely to sit down for a meal with pretty flowers at the table and we are so fortunate to be able to grow a beautiful variety on the farm. Thank you to Val and Jill for the beauty!

Open Farm Day is a province-wide event that creates the opportunity for participating Nova Scotia farmers to open their doors to members of their community. Josh and the team have been planning....join us for a backstage pass to meet your farmers, and really see where your food comes from. :) Josh is planning on haywagon rides, a petting zoo, and u-pick activities for the whole family. Please join us!
Recipes from Denise's Test Kitchen
Wondering what to do with your artichokes? Wonder no more. Check out this recipe for Roasted Artichokes with Lemon and Garlic. It's loaded with all kinds of yum.
This recipe for Creamy Chicken Liver Pasta calls for 1lb of chicken livers--exactly the amount in this week's Full Monty!
I made this plum clafouti over the weekend and it was delicious. A big hit at family dinner. :)
I made this mildly spicy tortilla vegetable soup earlier this week and have been enjoying it for lunch for days. It's chock full of veggies. A dollop of sour cream and some chopped avocado are really yummy garnishes.
It's canning time. When you get your cucumbers and tomatoes and jam all jarred and put away, consider adding some other veggies to your pickle pantry--like these dilly beans.
Happy cooking, everyone. Have a great week! :)
